A police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a partner who was ambushed by a knifeman received the Royal Recognition for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a road collision in the area in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.

"Policeman attacked," the officer was heard to say over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera video released by the police department depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.

He struck the officer who lost balance and went down to the street, before Sergeant Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the pavement even though being repeatedly struck with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a safe opportunity, bringing the fight to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get assistance on my throat now, I've been stabbed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and additional injuries to his limbs and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.

Authorities reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his partner's blood loss before emergency responders came.

The new honor arrives subsequent to the trio of policemen received internal Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local officer association in early 2024.

They additionally received a North West Bravery Award in mid-2024.

"The responses of each policeman in the end protected each other and ensured no members of the public experienced any injuries."
