Ex- National Football League Player Antonio Brown Files Innocent Response in Murder Attempt Charges
Former NFL star Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to face an murder attempt allegation connected with a shooting that happened in May, as his attorney filing a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Detention logs in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an message that he has previously filed a written innocent declaration to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail hearing, Eiglarsh added.
According to his arrest order, Brown is alleged of seizing a pistol from a security employee after a celebrity fighting bout in May and shooting multiple bullets at a person he had fought with earlier. The reported individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed police that one shot grazed his neck.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
“The measures he was compelled to take were exclusively in self-protection against the reported victim’s hostile conduct. Brown was assaulted that night and responded within his rightful entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not right away detained because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a target. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu delivered a detailed account about the situation to authorities and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit says.
Based on his social media updates, Brown had been residing in Dubai for multiple period. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by numerous individuals who tried to rob my possessions and inflict personal harm to me.”
A category two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida carries a maximum 15-year jail penalty and up to a $10,000 fee in the event of a conviction.
Brown has dealt with several court challenges over the time. He previously had been alleged of physical attack of a vehicle driver, several family violence allegations, failure to pay child support and other incidents.
During a recent contest with Tampa Bay against the opponents, Brown took off his shirt, equipment and accessories and ran off the arena, causing his dismissal by the franchise and effectively ending his professional career.
Brown, who had a dozen years in the NFL, was an elite player who passed the bulk of his time with Pittsburgh. Throughout his time, Brown had 928 grabs for more than 12,291 yards, the 28th greatest of record. He was a 7-time all-star selection.
